a poetic renovation
The renovation of a secondary school offers a wonderful opportunity to reenchant the daily life of students. This work questions what can increase the quality of learning, the comfort of those in charge of teaching, and that of the staff who feed the community. What is a contemporary secondary school anchored in the environmental issues of its time? What can be the symbolism of such a complex today? These considerations go beyond the strictly technical approach of thermal upgrading formulated in the initial specifications. Close to the great forest of Le Gâvre, the new facades of the school draw on the local forest universe, in a play of brown tones, and by the irregular vertical lines of the brise-soleil-trunks. The austere mineral facades inherited from the 1960s are insulated by wooden boxes (manufactured off-site). The skin of the ground floor, made of solid acacia wood, offers a warm and soothing contact with the students.
