The top floor of the tour Bretagne, a unique landmark in the Nantes skyline, houses “Le Nid”, a daily used masterpiece of the Voyage à Nantes.
On the 32nd floor of this building which was built in the 1970s, the Voyage à Nantes entrusted the designer Jean Jullien with the creation of a friendly place open to all public.
Urbanmakers architectes made the architecture transcription of the artist’s sketches, adapting the original idea to the specificities of the place: the new uses and particularities of such a high building.
“Le Nid” shelters a huge sleepy white bird in a black space, around which are represented the emblematic places of the city. This place is both an artistic work and a panoramic bar. By developing the idea of a monochrome space – floors, walls, and ceilings – we have declined the black color through different changing materials, taking into account the effects, the scenographic and acoustic techniques specific to a bar.
The 360° outside terrace which encircles the bar represents a large “aviary”. Made of stainless steel mesh, it protects the public from falling out and offers an exceptional view of the city.
