looking back for street pleasure
Located in Bellevue district, the project launches the change of an area exclusively social and today hardly devaluated. the project proposes an architecture which is obviously urban, using with clearness some traditional city codes. In a sense, the project directly imports in the heart of Bellevue an architectural intensity which is usually seen in city centre.
The building recalls an historic city consistency: it forms an angle block featuring a mixed-use program, its base is destined to retail activities. The very close tramway station offers an advantage for developing this animated urban identity. The settlement follows the roads alignments, turning the district in a street pattern system: it’s a kind of breaking point regarding the “free implementation principle” proper to the sixties and seventies French urbanism that marked this area’s organization.
The project contributes then to structure the huge existing public spaces today just occupied with cars, badly defined and unused which is the heritage result of that urbanism.
With the purpose of looking back for the “street pleasure”, we designed a simple shape, featuring thick and regular facades covered with clear bricks. Renewing the image of Bellevue, our building fits with a noble material that evokes the similar quality of Nantes centre city stone buildings.
