surrounded by multi-century-old oaks
The Baronnerie site is quite representative of the peri-urban situations where we are invited to imagine the city to come. It marks one of the gateways into the metropolis of Anjou, our intervention here contributes to the metamorphosis of an axis which is still mainly road-based today into a real urban boulevard in the long term.
Situated slightly set back, the project is set in a landscape composed of tall, majestic, multi-century-old oaks that we wanted to highlight with great architectural sobriety.
In this respect, the central gap allows the continuity of this landscape to be seen from both sides.
The operation is organised in two collective buildings set on a common base: this base regulates the topography and conceals all the parking spaces.
Perched on the first floor, the buildings are set up in an L-shape on either side of a large void, so that each dwelling has a double orientation. This arrangement maximises the amount of sunshine and the views of the wooded panorama.
The architecture is clear, mineral and rough: from very simple volumes, it plays on the theme of finely ribbed, running strips. At the corners, the façades are hollowed out into generous loggias, a layout that provides a very concrete solution to the intimacy between neighbours.
The architectural style is aimed at elegance. It is based on simple and rigorous principles: legibility of the load-bearing structure, regular design of the bays, reasoned use of materials. On the ground, the various accesses are integrated into a quality architectural rhythm, identical to that of the upper floors.
