landscape and drapery
very close to Angers central railway station, Quartuor is a city center mixed -use plot boarding high speed train lines. It’s program diversity is unusually rich.
Office buildings are shaped as huge facetted prisms (evoking Christo and Jeanne Claude artwork such as Reichstag’s textile wrap). Made up of three building, the office part seems laid on a changeful landscape. this large landscaped layer is indeed the common infrastructure of the buildings: fallowing sloped volume, it covers the whole car park of the site. Shops and entrances hall are spotlighted by spectacular lifting of this lanscape. Buildings are draped in huge white metallic mesh. With an outer position, it filters views and protect glazing against direct sunlight.
Office spaces use “free-cooling”: concrete structures participate to the thermal balance by using mass inertia. they are visible from inside, simply stained. Featuring a curvy shape, the hotel leans to a student housing building. this vertical building brings to mind the prestigious King René fortress which is the symbol of the city (characéristics are the striated cylindrical towers featuring blond anb black stone). This building is glossy, reflecting the city life, railway life, office life
