a new urban polarity
After the destruction of the road bridge which has disfigured the area for a long time, the « Coligny triangle » now represents a new structuring and soothed polarity for the city of Besançon. Coinciding with this major reshuffle, the arrival of the tramway definitely made this site pass from a state of obstacle to a state of go-between: here is the issue at the heart of this new housing-commerce mixed island. From a geographical point of view, its location which overlooks the historic city, its opening onto a wonderful mountain panorama (and also on the Vauban citadel) make it a top notch site.Facing the “polygone” tram stop which provides services to several districts, the new project gives body to a large urban crossroads : it represents a milestone towards the city center.
The project is a corner building with a polygonal base which lines up with the streets bordering it. The high volumetry shows angular and physical faces: they open widely onto the multiple neighboring structures of this large crossroads. The ground floor is dedicated to commercial activities, as close as possible to the pedestrians and the tram stop.
The architecture writing is definitely urban: regular, mineral and rough facades evoke the consistency of the historic city. They are made in a sand-blasted concrete which tints remind of the Chailluz stone, a Besançon specific stone which has the specificity of mixing ocher and grey. To a certain extent, our proposal exports in this formerly undefined district an architectural intensity you can find in city centers.
